In 1590 (Tensho 18), Kazutoyo Yamauchi entered Kakegawa Castle, built a castle tower and Otemon, and maintained the castle town. In 1994, the current castle tower was rebuilt with a wooden structure.

Ieyasu Tokugawa ordered Yasutaka Osuga to build the castle as a base for capturing Takatenjin Castle. The festival culture of the Edo Tenka Matsuri was passed down to the castle in the middle of the Edo period, and it is still inherited today.

Sagara Castle Ruins

It was built by Tanuma Okitsugu, but it was abandoned after the fall of Rōjū. The Makinohara Museum of History is located at the site of Sagara Castle Honmaru, and a statue of Tanuma Okitsugu was erected in May 2021.
